Garden’s Lament
HC Freger (University of Southern Queensland)
The Oshima cherry’s petals dance, suspended,
Betwixt wind’s whisper and earth’s steadfast draw,
In balance, choices linger, unattended,
A symphony of possibilities raw.
The lone koi, in mirrored waters, fears the night,
Its circular journey, uncertain, slow,
‘Neath arched bridge, it navigates, out of sight,
With hesitations grip, it dares not go.
Upon mossed paths, steps echo contemplation,
Rooted in now, yet longing for the unseen,
Indecision, silent thief, ensnares the gardener’s mind,
Coils ‘round the gardener’s thoughts, ever keen.
In the garden’s heart, where shadows softly creep,
The gardener wanders, lost in silent thought,
Each choice a seed, with the soil to keep,
Yet indecision binds, ties knots, untaught.
Between the bloom of dawn and dusk’s descent,
The Oshima cherry’s petals softly sigh,
Amidst the verdant world, their time well spent,
Yet still, they hesitate, unsure, and shy.
