The egg sat white and round inside the cage without straw and without a warm soft mound to
keep it warm against the cold steel bars of its cage, it slowly, began to die. Inside the shell
two twisted legs crunched up under its tiny chin and its beak barely formed unable to peck its
way out of its shell. Abandoned. Forgotten. Dying alone. Who made this cage, a coffin of
steel locking the world out and keeping the egg in? Too late for regrets. Too late to hatch a
plan. All options have passed. Maybe…
Eagle Ryanzke is a published poet and writer currently undertaking a PhD in Philosophy at Western Sydney University. Eagle has completed a BA (Hons 1), Graduate Diploma (Information Management) and Graduate Diploma (Writing and Literature). When not writing or studying Eagle enjoys powerlifting, playing the guitar and learning to play the piano.
