That Time I Was Walking, And It Was Beautiful
Brian Clifton (Missouri University, USA)

The long school years
to learn my tears are honey.

I’ve been wrong so many

times, but I can be wrong
again, playing in the snow.

I’ve locked the doors
and searched for patterns

on the floor.

      There’s glitter
in honey, glitter in snow,

there are wet diamonds
that flow from a broken

finger. The gutter soaked

with them. Honey coats
the skipping record

and causes it to skip
a little more, a little more,

a little more. My exploration

into the years of alcoholism
and the fuck-fueled snow.

Brian Clifton lives in Kansas City, Missouri where he walks mostly everywhere he goes. He plays bass and is currently enrolled in the MFA program at UMKC.
